  1. Instead of forcing the ai player to be passive for the remaining round, why not integrate it into it?

As a suggestion, how about a for traitors purchasable uplink item (most likley too bulky to carry in a bag) that can have a carded ai inserted and have it become a syndie ai instead.

Of course that syndie ai wouldn't have access to most of the stations machinery but it would have a full list of all active syndicate agents their names, objectives and the option to talk to those agents privatly (pda messages would probably suffice) and at least camera access.

Maybe even a coms line to the lavaland syndie research outpost ... that way the ai could relay information to them too and coordinate with the syndie telecomms agent (if present) to cause elaborate distractions.

Now the ai player has something to do instead of being forced to only scream for help for the remainder of the round and the syndie operative has to consider the tradeoff of risking to lose the ai (in case someone finds it's uplink) to in turn offer his traitor buddies a very powerfull eye in the sky and intelligence source.

And for the station the loss of an ai suddenly actually becomes noteworthy ... other than the fact that your favourite door opener is no longer avaliable.

The best part about it is that i think most of the functionality is already in place and more or less coded as the syndie telecomms agent spawn.

  2. Yeah, i was mostly worried that the clownish name ruling would extend to the char concept as a whole since it does borrow a bit from the clown role in behavior.

I already explain the lack of clown voice by nt being culturally insensitive and forcing a clean se on my char ... thanks this will work.

  3. Byond Key: Jamuro

    IC Name for Review: Speckels

    Race: Human

    Gender: male

Is this a Mime or Clown Job Name? Clown name for non clown job

    Reason/Backstory:

I got informed that my charactername "Speckels" is not allowed since it could be interpreted as a clown name and only clown roles are allowed such names.

I asked if it was too similar to a random generated clown name and got (if i am not mistaken ... it has been a while) as answer that it doesn't matter and any name that could be considered clownish is only allowed for the clown job.

During all the time i played i never thought that the name could be problematic, since i thought it wasn't a memeish name or one that particularly breaks the immersion.

Especially since well nt is a moraly bankrupt company that sends people on a station filled with stuff like chicken suits, clown masks, wizzard outfits and so on.

From my point of view a name like Speckels wouldn't raise any eyebrows.

But like i said in the other thread i would very much understand if taking command positions would be not acceptable with such a name.

The goal for my appeal is to idealy be able to keep the name speckels, since i played that char for years but if that is not possible to get some clarification/help as to how exactly to interpret the clownish name ruling.

Speckels as a character has always been the clown version of a fish out of water ... a clown/or wannabe clown thrust into an ordinary job who ends up being dedicated to fullfilling his task as best as possible until the inevitable clownish relapse happens.

For that to work a clown like name is i feel kinda important.

Here is a link to my original thread in case it is needed as a reference or something:

    In short:

I am basically asking to either be allowed to keep the name Speckels or need a clear definition on how close to a "clownish" name i can get without breaking the rules.

For that i need to know what defines a name as too clownish.

  4. It might be too much work but in my opinion the ideal upgrade would be job/department specific cartiges that can extend the pAIs functionality.

Some of them could even be locked behind research levels.

There are a lot of possible extensions i can think of ... the real question tough still is if they could be considered worth the required development work.

Rough ideas that come to mind:

    Sec cartridge:

Being able to dispense a handcuff every few minutes and being able to recharge stun batons in your pAI.

    Medical/paramedic cartirdge:

The pAi can create about 10 units of either saline of epi every minute or two in syringe form, just enough for basic shock/cardiac treatment in case nothing else is at hand.

Or maybe that is it's research dependend upgrade and the basic form has access to the crew monitoring system or even a crew locator.

    Mining upgrade:

It could get a basic meson scanner but with an extended view of nearby enemies, to help warn the miner.

Maybe as an upgrade it could even work as a small emergency oxy tank?

    Janitor cartridge:

Matter conversion ... meaning it works like a trashbag, but the trash put into it fuels the item creation side of its functionality.

Like for example lightbulbs could be made or even very small not refuelable spray cans with space cleaner (to prevent clown-lube abuse)

    Engineering:

Honestly not sure about that one but maybe a diagnostic system ... you use the pAI on a damaged machine or tell it what you want to build and it can give you a readout of the required components or steps needed to fix the machine/door/...

I just see too often engineers that get confused half way trough repairing something and then suddenly disappear to never be seen again 🙂

    Bureaucratic upgrade:

Allows the pAi to work like a fax or copy machine with maybe as researchable upgrade the ability to function like a telecom console (the ones that allow you to use the radio with tcoms down) Of course with a significant delay inbetween uses to prevent spam.

    Illegal cartridge:

Maybe the pAI can even be used for small time crime with an illegal upgrade that lets it work like a multitool, but the electricution form hacking ends up also damaging the pAI severly.

That said, this would be a bit too similar to the door jack ... but maybe someone else can come up with something fun that could be considered usefull but not too impactfull.

  5. I could be wrong here but i am almost certain that my char was the brig physician that round.

So here is what i remember of those events:

First, this whole mess is somewhat my fault(the dying part) i have to admit.

I spent too much time adding surplus stuff to the brigbay and constructing stuff so that in the end i completly forgot to get anestehtic tanks and a mask.

To make matters worse, we both had crit patients that needed surgery at the same time ... which resulted in me probably more than once taking surgery tools that were needed for my own operation and vice versa.

It is very likley that i did administer the o- without checking what race the wardens patient was ... it was quite a clusterfu** in brigbay at this point, with stuff being everywhere and half of it still being filled with tools and machine components and my own patient rushing towards crit on the surgery table.

In the end, i was so focused on my operation that i hardly spent time reading any of the talks that were ongoing ... especially since i was trying to selectivly read the lines about wheather or not my char fumbled the surgery steps due to the lack of anesthetic.

Which means i almost certainly did ignore medicine requests or at the very least reacted too late to some of them. (to make matters worse, the medvendomat i got for brigbay was almost empty of important stuff like salbutamol even before i got it there)

Much later i got asked by the iaa in a seemingly non official capacity (it felt more like water cooler talk than an inquiry) if i heard about the warden repeatedly killing someone.

At the time i agreed with that ... but it was not my intend to blame anyone (especially not to cause a warning to be issued) ... rather i was very frustrated with my own performance and the surgery tool snatching, followed by brigbay being blown up 2 times.

    Summary:

It very much was an exceptional stressfull and unusual situation where both of us had their hands more than full and to me at least it didn't realy look like he was trying to grief or kill his patient.

    Hope this helps

  6. You can come up of a backstory, quirks and flaws but i would say for someone new to rp this can be a very daunting task, that can end up feeling like you are restricting yourself.

Another way would be to let your character grow over time and build those aspects naturally.

You don't need to come up with a fully functioning character all at once and instead can just set yourself goals and ambitions.

While pursuing those you will automatically start to gather flaws, quirks, stories and depth overall.

For example, lets say you like playing a roboticist and want to delve deep into the job.

Well one of your goals could be to make as many different robots/mechs as you can in a shift.

As a result over time your character would become known as maybe excentric and always at the frontier of science in his/her department.

Maybe even to a point where you start hanging out in r&d or maybe even build your own research lab to speed up the process.

Or maybe he becomes a hoarder or pefectionist ... who loves making those toys but realy doesn't like handing em out and as a result starts a rigorous screening process with written exams or maybe other tests and trials for borg applicants.

Then there can be outside influence defining your character.

Maybe you like playing a chemist ... and nonstop people come and ask for drugs.

You could then decide that your character either rebels against that and starts vigilante style attacking botany for making ambrosia every round.

Or maybe you submit and start to make drugs for the public fridge (and get busted).

Later this can lead to your character either making secret drug labs or maybe he becomes smarter (with you learning more about the job) and starts splitting the drug components accross several meds.

This way your generic chemist suddenly becomes the hidden drug kingpin of the station ... whose ever changing secret pill combinations are only known to the most depraved of the station.

    Tl;dr.:

Basically focus on the aspects of the game, you enjoy and slowly collect and grow your character with the experiences & stories you enjoyed the most.

Don't be afraid to try different things and incorporate what you like.

  7.

    How do i banana?

    I would love to see a clown-ing comic^^

Also, i hope to soon be able to gain enough trust to actually get the A.I. to honk for me^^
