Good point. At the moment, the code only supports both understanding and speaking a language (you can't have one without the other, I think). I imagine for the best realism this wouldn't be the case, but I think this might be more trouble than it's worth for most of the coders. Still, worth a shot if you want to post an issue on the github.

Aaactually.... its sort of possible.. I prayed in a round today, and.. this happened. "I want to at least understand galactic common" and to what I got.. "You may understand it.. but you are to not speak it" And after that happened, just to be sure, It was not in my known languages.. but I was able to hear and understand galactic common. Dunno -how- that happened.. but it was a thing with a prayer.

I guess language is also tied to some degree to what kind of vocalizing equipment your body has. Like a farwa won't be able to make the same sounds a voxy can, so that's why you lose that language.

I can understand losing the ability to speak it with how you said it could work, but what about understanding it? with brain transplant.

And if you mean to turn your human body into a monkey, well, you're reverting to a lesser life-form. Your brain DOES change, as does every single other molecule of your anatomy.

If... thats the case then why does Brain transplant from a human to a farwa... not let you keep your languages? Because by that logic.. I should still retain my memories and things. No?

  4. Sooooo.. I am someone who likes to play as little critters and creatures that aren't technically humanoid, Xenos, Xenobio mobs, De-humanized Mobs.

So.. my question is.. Why does it happen as such, when I go de-humanize myself, I lose the connitivity, to not understand galactic common no more? I should still be able to, I still know who I was. I still know what I did, I just changed my appearance gene. Not a gene in my brain, or a gene that is connected to my brain. I just.. wanted to know everyone's opinion on the matter and maybe start up a discussion!

There was a PR that once existed that would have allowed the various races on the Station to learn an additional species language as a secondary language at character generation, and it was shot down hard (by myself as well as others) because several of these languages are (fluff-wise) totally unspeakable by other species - For example, rootspeak really isn't a vocalization a non-Diona would be able to make. Same for the Vulp language - Yes, a human might be able to bark and whine appropriately, but some of the language is based on relative tail and ear positioning.

EDIT: I could support this kind of system for something like Gutter, Tradeband, or even Clownish.

I completely agree. Like I said, I used Slime people's Language, blubbish as an example in my post. They use their own body to talk. Althought it would still be nice to have like.. All the language that has vocal in them. The vulp language too, albeit it has like.. Ear and tail movement. You could always have it made be 'Broken' Vulp language.

This would make librarian a bit more useful, but as well as make other things... more fun for people that would like to understand more languages or branch out.

I just thought of it on a whim. We can brainstorm it more and make it something else. This is basically what I thought of:

What if the librarian could order books from their computer, that allows for learning other languages? That'd be cool, right? A human speaking Binary. A Vox speaking Drask. Machine Speaking Slime language. Though of course.. this might conflict with some languages lore wise. I think slime would be a prime example... I don't know how it is, but im fairly certain its by their own body, squishing, jiggling and etc. Just... I doubt a human could do that.

Regardless. "Whats not keeping someone to power game and learn all the languages as a librarian." Well... of course limits have to be put. So I thought of people having "Memory". Just like the pAIs on how they have 100Ram and a number of program.

For example Binary could cost 1 or 2 memory points. Skrell language(I don't know the name) Could be 3.

Of course these are random numbers and these should be... thought of by either a general consensus, or the Admins/Coders.

So... yea.. Thats.. the basics of my Suggestion. Im.. pretty something like that might've been brought up. Thought up, or maybe even exists in another server. I don't know.

But... yea. This would make the library more useful... make people have more fun messing around with different languages. Limit them lore wise, memory wise.

This would be really, really cool to me and im sure a lot of people could enjoy that.

    So? how about it?

It's an issue with node routes on the way to the host. Trust me, they're working on it.

    I figured that they were, but I wanted to sure anyways. Its also just cause yesterday someone said that it was Byond being "fucky". Which... isn't the case. Im not saying names cause after a night of sleep I can't remember if it was a regular member or an admin x .x; so im not pointing fingers aimlessly xD;

And sheesh.. a problem with the node routes? Uh... I wonder how those borked out of place when no update happened...

  8.

Can you just Reset it? Turn it off and on again? A lot of people cannot connect to your server.. But they can go on any other server just fine. You guys are the only server I have problems with right now :/ and.. I doubt it'd be Byond's new update cause i think stable became popular because of crashes and that only updated about... before 12th? 13th?

Well.. regardless.. I'd appreciate if you're not already investigating it, to do so please. Thank you for reading, I do not mean to sound mean, I just wish to be able to play like a ton of other people. Have a nice day!
