In an effort to encourage inter-species cooperation and workplace efficiency, NanoTrasen has compiled a series of helpful guides on the various species that you may be working with!

* Humans are a playable species with no karma price.
(NOTE: If you are a member of the species this guide pertains to, please give it to the nearest crewmember of another species)

* Humans speak primarily Galactic Common (GalCom). Most humans can also be expected to have a working knowledge of Sol Common (SolCom).
This particular guide refers to the species known as the Humans (singular: Human).

* Humans can wear all standard NanoTrasen gear.
Human Naming Schemes
The Human naming scheme is similar to the one most used in the galaxy. A first name, sometimes inherited from a parent, most of the time random, as well as a last name, denoting family association.

* Humans possess no extra-normal abilities.
It is generally considered rude to use a Human’s first name in professional situations, but it’s perfectly acceptable in less formal settings, even without previously making acquaintance.

Humans are of rather average height, both males and females around 175cm to 185cm in height. Human skin can take any color from very dark shades of brown to almost white beige. Skin color is hereditary.

Biology and Appearance
Humans have plantigrade legs with round construction and small nails. Most clothing onboard NT vessels is modelled specifically for Humans, and as such they will have the most comfort while wearing it.
Standing at about 1.8 meters as the average with massive variation, Humans appear in a vast diversity of body morphologies. They have a thin to medium thickness membrane covering their flesh. This membrane is known in their native tongue as 'skin', and is pigmented to come in many different shades of brown and beige. Pale skin however seems to be most common outside of Earth. They possess small eyes, with varying shades of pigmentation, with thick movable skin flaps known as eyelids. Their noses are large dual tubes supported by cartilage, and just off their face. This nasal organ helps facilitate respiration. They have two long appendages known as arms they use to reach and grasp objects. They are also bipedal, with their legs similar to their arms, but with a much lesser degree of flexibility.

One of the primary physical aspects of a human is its hair, fibers that grow out of their scalp and hangs dead upon piercing the skin. These are long, tendrils that extend from their scalp and are of varying lengths, with female hair tending to be longer, though this is not always the case. The hair can be cut and styled at various lengths, and comes in many colors.
Human bodies are covered in small hairs, generally used to combat excessive sweating and provide sensory input.

Humans have two sexes, male and female.
The Sol Common Language
Sol Common is a synthesised language, created by combining Old Earth Chinese with Old Earth English. The language came into existence in the early 2100s and has been used very widely in the Sol system over the following centuries. In the 26th century, however, large amount of immigrants physically incapable of speaking it forced Sol to switch to the more friendly Galactic Common, starting to slowly phase the language out.

Growth
Sol Common is no longer used outside of very informal settings and is not a mandatory subject at Sol schools. Every Sol-born Human should be proficient in the use of Galactic Common.

Lifespan
The Human Homeworld
Normal life expectancy for most Human is 95 earth years.
The homeworld of the Human species is Earth.

Diet
Following centuries of heavy industrial exploitation Earth had turned into an industrial wasteland. With toxic bodies of water and nigh-unbreathable atmosphere, living outside of specifically terraformed parts of the planet was impossible. That all changed, however, as during the 26th century Sol Government put large amounts of resources towards an eco-revitalization project, meant to bring Earth back to its former state.
Humans are omnivores, and as such their nutritional diet consists of vegetation and meats. Humans can eat almost any meal pleasing to their pallet, and that is not poisonous. Be it meat or fruit. Some humans however have vowed to never consume meat, and as such consume only vegetation. They are rare however. Humans also have an organ known as a 'liver' that filters toxins from their blood stream, allowing them to consume alcohol better than most species.

Society and Culture
Eventually, the project proved successful, bringing much of the long-lost life back onto the planet.
Humans are a socially negligent people with a hateful and bland culture. Earth's landscape contained many diverse people, most of whom were met with scorn and hatred from whatever ruling class was in charge during the time. Gender equality is generally accepted however sexism is still seen on space stations. This is likely due to millennia of sexism and female subservience. Humans generally enter monogamous and long term relationships with one another in order to bear children.

Most cultures of Earth focus on self discovery, independence, and freedom. As a result most humans are selfish and ignorant people.
Currently, most of Earth is protected by incredibly strict anti-pollution laws, making it one of the most beautiful places in Sol. The breathable atmosphere and lush plant life make it a very popular tourist destination for most of the galaxy.

Humans have a long history of violence, greed, and hatred. An achievements made by the species were fueled by the those three. Wars over money, race, and pure anger were common in human history. Even now space is dominated by human corporations who stop at nothing to further profits.
Earth is considered one of the most expensive places to live in the galaxy, with most of the population employed in the financial sector of the ever-growing economy of the planet.

Home Planet
The world is in control of the Trans-Solar Federation, and is generally very open to immigrants from outside of the system. Currently Earth is the planet with the second-highest GDP in the galaxy ranking only behind Mars.
Main: Earth

Humans originated from the world of Earth. A medium sized planet, oceans cover 71% of the planet's surface. Typical environments on the four continents consist of large plains, desserts, and many types of forest land. The Human will typically make their habitat in in a huge city, to live with the other humans. However due to unchecked pollution and nuclear conflict Earth can barely sustain life. Only the slums of once great cities hold humans. Everyone and everything outside those zones has died. Those in the slums live brutish and short lives. When Earth faced its fifth energy crisis plasma was discovered. Corporations of Earth rushed out to capture it and sell it back to the dying and powerless world. However they realized they could turn a greater profit by selling it to Mars and Luna, more wealthy human settlements. As a result much of Earth is still without power.

In the year 1945 the United Nations of Earth came into existence. While not perfectly effective at stopping internal conflict, they were partially able to tone down the scale of the violence earlier present on the planet. === Military ===
Human Culture
Human military forces typically have multiple tiers with a caste system. Each group has their own specific function in relation to each other which makes for a swift and responsive military force. Their are a series of squads and groups that are commanded by a chain of officers giving orders and overseeing and operations. Humans fear death, and as a result avoid hand to hand combat, preferring ranged weaponry. With the advent of bluespace strikes, they can remotely kill their enemies from great distances. Even before this invention they would call in airstrikes of explosives to kill their enemy from afar without risking their own lives. This kind of mass ranged weaponry has created a problem for human military corporations. They cannot wage war openly on each other without risking massive casualties and damage, so instead they wage covert warfare. Hiring third party sabotage agents to attack each other in secret.
Traditionally, the Human species values individuality, freedom and equality. A common belief among Humans is that one is the master of their own fate and there are no obstacles impossible to overcome in life. Humans are encouraged from their earliest years to think big and aim high.

Relations with other Species
Humans put much pressure on family values and education early in life. In Sol education up until the age of 16 is mandatory, but many continue on to finish higher education and obtain scientific degrees.
Historically, humans are not accepting of other species. In most cases, their prejudice causes violence. However as time has passed humans have become more accepting.

Humans are very open to learning and cooperating with foreign species. They are well known for being one of the most welcoming species in terms of immigration, accepting millions on new arrivals onto their colonies every year. Capable of seeing the potential in such a diverse approach, just like Nanotrasen, they have achieved unmatched superiority as the most powerful governmental agency in the galaxy.

With the advent of technology, most Human religions have been completely phased out. Currently, there are many different purely philosophical views on the meaning and inner workings of life, with the debate being fueled by constant new scientific discoveries regarding the nature of one’s soul, as well as those related to Bluespace.

Humans and YOU

Greetings, esteemed crewmember!

In an effort to encourage inter-species cooperation and workplace efficiency, NanoTrasen has compiled a series of helpful guides on the various species that you may be working with!

(NOTE: If you are a member of the species this guide pertains to, please give it to the nearest crewmember of another species)

This particular guide refers to the species known as the Humans (singular: Human).

Human Naming Schemes

The Human naming scheme is similar to the one most used in the galaxy. A first name, sometimes inherited from a parent, most of the time random, as well as a last name, denoting family association.

It is generally considered rude to use a Human’s first name in professional situations, but it’s perfectly acceptable in less formal settings, even without previously making acquaintance.

Human Physiology

A typical Human

Humans are of rather average height, both males and females around 175cm to 185cm in height. Human skin can take any color from very dark shades of brown to almost white beige. Skin color is hereditary.

Humans have plantigrade legs with round construction and small nails. Most clothing onboard NT vessels is modelled specifically for Humans, and as such they will have the most comfort while wearing it.

Human bodies are covered in small hairs, generally used to combat excessive sweating and provide sensory input.

Sol Common is no longer used outside of very informal settings and is not a mandatory subject at Sol schools. Every Sol-born Human should be proficient in the use of Galactic Common.

The Human Homeworld

The homeworld of the Human species is Earth.

Following centuries of heavy industrial exploitation Earth had turned into an industrial wasteland. Earth ( FIX PLES )

Human history is not unlike that of most other species. For centuries, Mankind fought many internal wars, leading to rather sparse technological progress. In the year 1945 the United Nations of Earth came into existence. While not perfectly effective at stopping internal conflict, they were partially able to tone down the scale of the violence earlier present on the planet. Soon after followed the first space programs ran by different nations of the planet, leading to a swift colonization of the planet’s moon, as well as that of another planet in the system.

Generally, the progress of Humanity after those events is unanimous with the progress of the Trans-Solar Federation.

Human Culture

Traditionally, the Human species values individuality, freedom and equality. A common belief among Humans is that one is the master of their own fate and there are no obstacles impossible to overcome in life. Humans are encouraged from their earliest years to think big and aim high.

Humans put much pressure on family values and education early in life. In Sol education up until the age of 16 is mandatory, but many continue on to finish higher education and obtain scientific degrees.

Present Day

Human culture has permeated many societies discovered by them so far. One can find a can of Space Cola in nearly every civilized settlement from Moghes to Aurum. With numerous Human organisations happily accepting other species into their ranks, Humanity has become a cultural trendsetter for most of the galaxy.

Humans can easily be encountered in almost all of the civilized galaxy. The omnipresent species is easily the most numerous one, and is still growing in numbers.

Humans are no longer considered a player in the galactic arena by themselves, as nearly every organisation initially started by them has been diversified by accepting more and more foreign individuals into their ranks. Generally, a non-Human won’t encounter any problems related to their species if they choose to move to a SolGov-controlled system, as species-related discrimination is generally considered immoral, as well as simply illegal.

Remember, knowledge, respect and cooperation are the key tenets of success and productivity!
