In-Depth Map Survey

So having seen the results of the July 2020 community survey, it was brought up that some areas of Box feel overcrowded in high population, and others feel underpopulated at all times. I've made a survey to sort of go in-depth on what people would want if either a new map were to be made or if single departments were to be revamped.

Feel free to discuss, add suggestions, etc.

For the record, remarks like this aren't helpful nor are they relevant to making a new map/changing the old one. Please don't abuse my decision to make this form anonymous by being hateful in the additional feedback.

I wish the service areas of cargo and RnD were bigger. Like 2 counters, consoles and machines so more than one person can get serviced at once. That is my suggestion. Quicker service = shorter lines = less blocked halls.

Honestly my opinion is just keep the Cyberiad as is, and get a larger map ready for when map rotation is available. However what Free did in his Engineering remap was quite good, ripperoni.

Thank you so much everybody for submitting responses! (Excuse the lack of consistency in response numbers as the list goes on; somebody just submitted a new response as I was screencapping all of the charts lol)

I hope the survey was interesting to fill out; I tried to bring up as many contentious issues as I could. An important thing I forgot to mention was a lot of these questions were intended to collect data for me to use when making a new high population map, hence why they sound a bit weird if you take the rest of the station into consideration.

It was really helpful though, I appreciate the responses I've gathered. Each of the spoilers contains the categorized questions and their responses, as well as (some) summaries of additional comments people left on certain questions. Have a fun read!

Overpopulated: Medical

NOTE: A lot of people that were grouped into the "love 'em" category really liked the idea of the storage rooms, but find that they have little actual use in practice.

Someone suggested that we add spare plasmamen suits for patients that lose theirs. I think that's a pretty solid idea.

Virology was a mixed bag to some people. Two suggestions came up: that the isolation rooms need to be accessible by Medbay staff without entering Virology entirely, and that it should be isolated away from Medbay further, similar to how it is on Metastation (my words, not theirs).

Tons of suggestions involving adding a body disposal unit to the morgue - which is fair enough. Sometimes the Chaplain won't actually get rid of bodies, so things just pile up. Maybe give coroners access to the incinerator/mass driver?

There were two people suggesting that there should be zero cloning pods; that cloning should be something worked towards and earned, which is interesting.

Overpopulated: Hallways

Generally the main response was "empty for renovation", but there's actually a strong consensus that being a bridge hobo is bad and shouldn't be encouraged with its own little nook for people to stand in. I agree, honestly.

I suppose it was a silly question to ask, but I was genuinely curious. An overwhelming majority stated that it's fine in the center.

 

Overpopulated: Security

Pretty much most of the additional responses involved mourning the interrogation room's lack of use. I agree fully; I think it should be utilized far more often.

I don't think it would hurt anybody if we made it into one range to narrow the space it takes up.

Much like interrogation, the comments largely involved expressing disappointment in its lack of use. Some suggested that it would be better to just make it smaller.

I was pretty intrigued that some people were actually interested in the idea of a segregated processing.

Somebody mentioned that there should be something to do while in Solitary; especially if prisoners are only in there because Perma is unusable. Maybe an arcade machine?

The agreed-upon idea is that Perma just needs to be more enriching for people stuck in it. Somebody suggested a "separate" Perma for more dangerous EoCs, like vampires - to keep them from eating prisoners, presumably.

 

Underpopulated: Chapel/Library

Somebody stated that so long as antags had another way to access "free" Security gear, they'd be down to remove the checkpoint.

Wrapping Up:

  • A lot of requests for Security rooms in each department
  • Escape needs to be bigger
  • Maintenance overhaul would be nice
  • Medbay needs a major overhaul; treatment areas are chaotic in high population
  • Encouraging more use of RP elements (courtroom, interrogations, etc) would be beneficial
  • Someone really wants night lighting removed
  • Science is apparently quite boring and stale
