Gateway loot contraband status

Due to an incident occuring every few rounds where someone is permaed due to possesion gateway loot, leading to general uproar and rioting. (An experience not enjoyable for security or the person being permaed.) I propose that gateway loot should be exempted from counting towards EoC status, possession is still a crime and it should still be confiscated, however people won't be perma brigged because they took their loot onto the station.

A traitor could easily claim that some syndie gear in their possession is actually gateway loot as a get out of jail free card.

Whenever the topic of gateway explorer salt comes along, my stance is always the same: there is no reason for someone to bring lethal gateway loot on-station. In an ideal scenario they would call on sec on the station radio to come to the gateway and escort them to the brig, where they can submit it for confiscation or ask the warden for a weapons permit. You can also get things like security comms and a sechud from certain gateways, so if you're a traitor then security has been compromised/a traitor could kill you and compromise sec.

I get that there's a certain level of bragging rights to returning from the gateway unscathed, but at the end of the day the loaded gateway explorer is as dangerous as a validhunting HOS with the armory on his back simply because an actual enemy of the corporation could kill them and nick all their shit.

Oh yeah, in the case of hardsuits you should be able to keep it. Like damn, I watched someone in a gem-encrusted hardsuit get dragged off in cuffs and go SSD out of (presumably) rage. That broke my heart.

I was unaware that hardsuits are considered contraband. If this is an issue, then I think we should definitely get a rules change that non-weapons (excluding maybe sechuds and sec comms) aren't contraband of they came from the gateway.

Dehydrated space carp? EoC!

Re-implement customs and re-work the arrivals security checkpoint to cover the gateway,  problem solved.

I've been perma'd more than once for possessing such severe gateway contraband as an unloaded stenchkin/black and red soft suit, which space law actively enforces as anything at "class S" gets you treated as EoC. That's one of the problems with having such literal borderline OOC SoP/space law IMO as it doesn't leave any breathing room, either they perma you for having something available through the uplink or they aren't doing their jobs, which sucks for everyone when you were just trying to have fun with some harmless space suits.

Well, to quote spacelaws contraband law, and expansion on it:

Quote

... Personnel turning in these items to Security of their own volition are exempt from this law.
... In addition, any non-sanctioned items recovered from the Gateway or Asteroid (such as weaponry or cultist items) are subject to this law. ...

So, in short, you can either turn in the contraband, or stash it somewhere, and try to get it sanctioned, such staying within the law with the gateway contraband. You can't really make a blanket "gateway stuff is not contraband", as you could always claim you got items in the gateway. "Where did you find the stenchkin?" "Gateway" "What about the flashlight that seems to emit localized EMPs?" "Gateway" "And this murderous orange chainsaw?" "Gateway"

About Doukans example, an unloaded stenchkin and a syndicate soft suit would not be enough for perma, as there was only one weapon level contraband item, the soft suit is not contraband. The hardsuit is contraband, even syndicate level, but the soft suit is just a soft suit.

Is the gateway a wormhole to another wormhole somewhere in the universe or in a whole new universe? Because if its in a different  universe, where did the syndicate gear come from? I mean if It is a different universe, we can maybe have reskins on the gear you find on the gateway?

Former, not the latter.
