  1. Was a great shift. One of those fine examples of how players in a event can make it turn a very random direction. I went in thinking I wouldn't get elected, bringing the values of Crewmocracy to the stand. Somehow Greytide liked that and voted me in ((Even when the polls were rigged by two of the candidates)) My first order of business was to establish the Rangers... I didn't even know they would betray me. When Sepulchre said he was glad he was retiring I forced him out of retirement to be the secretary of Defense... Job name Forced Out of Retirement. When a syndicate killed the nanotrasen officer the crew voted to wage war with Syndicate, and wage war we did. While I was doing my duties the Vice president handed a very suspicious document to me and founded a Red Guard. I knew it would endanger democracy to have such a political party, but I had no proof to act on until one of the party members ratted out Boris. But the investigation was cut short by the USSP attack. With Sepulchre's help we disabled two mechs and killed their pilots, then we retreated to SEC to be met by Solgov. The battle was tough, and Deathsquad had stepped onto the field. I would eventually die in my office after requesting a nuke which would detonate shortly after. Good times fellas. 10/10 would die before letting democracy fall... Space Ronald Reagan would've been proud
  2. As of now the poll is looking at 5 yays and 3 nays. Even then 8 votes is not necessarily a big enough sample to say this accounts for the voice of the community. If you guys ever have time please encourage your friends to toss their name in! If we can atleast get 50 votes (that’s half a normal shift’s population) then it’ll have enough to influence whether or not the project continues or comes to a halt. I also ask everyone to take time to read all announcement posts that I’ve sent out there. So to prevent redundancy
  3. Noted, I've created a final yay / nay tally on the first page. As of now we have 1 yay and 2 nays
  4. I terrorized @AffectedArc07 and @Christasmurfand *doesn't want to be mentioned* to put in work on this job and I will be damned if I just wave my arms and say "oh well GG" when I feel based off my experiences in SEC that this job is needed. I agree, but the challenge will be to prove to the heads / maintainers that we as a community truly believe the job is necessary and wanted. Either that or prove to ourselves that it isn't necessary or wanted. After a discussion of some folks with discord I believe one way to visualize whether or not the community feels this job is necessary is to compile a list of those who support it and those who are against it, fortunately we have this thread to store that information. BEFORE WE CONTINUE The final decisions are set in stone: Job Name: Field Training Officer (No SEC Instructor / Drill Instructor) Equipment: Normal SEC Gear Karma Locked Job SOPs are still the same, HOS and Captain work as the checks and balance to the SEC Instructor to avoid karma job comdomery. If you agree with these key points, feel free to either post here or PM Me so I can start putting together a list of those who believe the job is necessary and wanted. First thing's first though minor details are going to be fixed, Morgue Access ((dont know where that came from)) is getting removed, SEC Instructor is in the bucket, Field Training Officer is in and a few grammatical errors are going to be patched up. Understand there are more critical projects than the Field Training Officer project that coders have to dedicate resources to, so it will be some time before a second PR is compiled... And even then I won't ask for it to be turned in until I am sure the community actually wants this job. This is where everyone who has support for the job count the most. Not only are you proving to the maintainers and head that the job is necessary but you are also proving to me that the job is necessary. To those who disagree: You are important too, we need to officially visualize the yays and nays for the job.
  5. Friday May 3rd Update To the 24 people that voted, the 7 people who commented, and the over 1000 views. I appreciate your time in bringing your opinions to the table, but the support for this job was not enough to please the coders to push the job through. As of now the merge has been declined. Despite your voices on this matter unfortunately the coder community has thought otherwise. So where do we go from here? As of right now this job is dead in the water. Whether or not you all feel your voices unheard is unfortunately not for me to say on your behalf. You can always message a maintainer if you feel the job is necessary. Convince them otherwise as a community ((in a civil manner please)). Until then this is the end of the SEC Instructor / Field Training Officer. I’ll leave this thread open should people wish to continue the discussion!
  6. Another thing to note is when it comes down to it the Field Training Officer is a Officer first ((on code blue/red that is)). The intention isn’t for them to still be instructing during code red incident but to atleast herd newsec and make them a force to be reckon with instead of just clusters of loot piñatas. By the end of the day though I completely understand this is a controversial idea! We are trying to shape it to be more logical every day! Don’t hesitate to keep pouring ideas.
  7. To rework this as a trainee and trainer role would probably stirr more confusion in the code. The biggest issue behind the trainee role is the antagonist’s ability to abuse that job. And trainer roles are not as weird as you might think especially in security and law enforcement agencies! Some security agencies will throw you into your beat with a guy who knows what he’s doing if you just show them you’re certified to do the job. There are simply things you can’t learn in a class setting, so some agencies put the rookies out on the streets under the wing of a field training officer. Like I said before coding is another issue. I was fortunate enough to find someone willing to code the Field Training Officer job. I don’t think it’d be fair for me to shake him down to code yet another job when I’m not even paying him. Maybe after the training officer is established we can look into trainees. The reason the training officer is being made is to designate someone as the person people can turn to for help while they work the beat. I forgot to mention the PR is out! It’s still being edited and shaped so feel free to look into the code and point out any abnormalities that might need fixing! https://github.com/ParadiseSS13/Paradise/pull/11387
  8. QUICK UPDATE: Due to recent events I will have to suspend the vote. I thank you all for your time in voting! Unfortunately it is causing controversy that is stopping the merge from happening. I will take the time to speak with the coder who is helping me on the PR and we'll have to make some changes. Thanks for your votes and time! But unfortunately both me and some staff members are confident would make more sense to make the officer go down the route of a Field Training Officer rather than a Drill Instructor. To those who voted the 1980's cop vote. You won!
  9. Which I took note of! However I took all those other "police titles" and put it under the theme of the 1980s copper vote which has the description that supports Field Training officers and Sergeant ((the option I personally supported))
  10. Which is why I personally wanted to go for the other option, but as I said before there's a significant voice of people who want me to at least put that title in. You'll notice through all my drafts I haven't used Drill Instructor because that wasn't the intention. If the poll could tip towards the 1980s copper theme that'd be cool! Anywho, if PEOPLE SAID SOMETHING SOONER which I've told you guys over and over in the discord to voice your opinions before the polls went out, then we probably wouldn't be at this stage. Those who saw my posts to come here and say something did, and that's why the job role went this direction. When we looked at the poll a couple days ago it was 10 - 6 Drill winning which is why the PR went in as drill for now. It can be changed, and the vote still has 4 days left! On a side note we're also pushing to have BOTH sides put into the server. The poll is for in the event admins decide only one theme can make its way into the server
  11. Personally I agree, however with how responses have been on the thread I added the option since there has been a significant amount of people who want “Drill instructor” instead of SEC instructor. Most law enforcement agencies also follow the same “paramilitary” model as well as most security agencies. I know when I went through the academy they followed that paramilitary model. Like I mentioned before I personally am more on board with the 1980s copper look ((that’s why I made it option one)) but this is going to be a job that the community has a voice and the ability to change. Unfortunately or fortunately the community has used that voice to add the drill instructor role... And the votes show it. If the heads say otherwise then cool! I hope I can keep the 1980s copper look instead o3o
  12. The SECMAINs found out about Hailers earlier this week. It hasn't stopped since.
  13. As a Karma job the sec instructor position will be out to a higher standard like the NT rep and magistrate. A magistrate or a NT rep is under more scrutiny than a IA agent and if they REALLY screw up the job they get bwoinked. Theyre paying karma points to unlock the job, that usually means they atleast did some sort of prior research or consultation before spending valuable karma on it. The draft SOPs also notes that with the captain or HOS’s green light a sec instructor can have legitimate authority. So instead of chasing the complaint paperwork trail that IA has to do the instructor can issue orders and ultimately terminate a officer ((with the HOS / Captain’s permission, the captain/HOS acts as a checks and balance for this character)) This job isn’t 100% meant to be a oversight job. It’s meant to be a opportunity for newer sec officers to have someone to look to for questions / mentoring in-character. I recommend reviewing the draft and the SOPs for more insight on the Sec instructor’s duties ^^
  14. Hello everyone! Furasian here, I have currently put out a poll to see if we can set a foundation for what the SEC Instructor should look like. Here are two options I've developed based on discussions here... Since we've weeded out the idea of SEC Instructor being a centcomm asset like the NT Rep and Blueshield I've currently taken those two appearance options out until otherwise. I am currently looking at two options, feel free to add more in the discussion! Option 1: 1980s copper- A true sign of a veteran! You've done your time and got some stripes. Now you stand with your fellow officers like the grumpy veteran you are! You smell bribes and loafing around so get those coppers on the streets to write those damn tickets! WHAT?! What do you mean we don't write tickets on this station?! Inspired by the pixel game Beat Cop, the true image of the tough old days, where you had to actually take fingerprints to a machine to get DNA instead of a handheld device. These rookies have it easy compared to the days you were on the street! Option 2: Drill Instructor- STAND AT ATTENTION! You lead these maggots and turn them into hard core officers! This is a paramilitary organization! If they don't like it they can leave! YOU ARE NO LONGER BLACK, OR YELLOW, OR GREEN, YOU ARE NOW RED! YOU ARE NOW DARK RED! Inspired by well.. Drill instructors. https://www.strawpoll.me/17878229 Vote now! Let your opinion shape this job the way YOU WANT it to be shaped! I've seen a couple discussions about the job along with a couple of ideas on the discord, reminder to post them here on this thread so it's all together in one location instead of being buried in the chaos that is discord THE VOTE WILL CLOSE ON 05/01/2019 (ONE WEEK FROM NOW)
  15. I took a moment to read everyone's post once again and took the liberty to start up the first official draft and description of the SEC Instructor. Here we go! *Icon here* SEC INSTRUCTOR Difficulty: Very Hard Guides: Guide to Security, Space Law, Standard Operating Procedure, Riot Control Access: Security, Brig Timers, Maintenance, Warden Sec Instructor is the field training officer of the Security Department. They consist of veteran SEC Officers who have walked the beat many shifts and survived the worst. With similar duties as a SEC Officer, it is their duty to shape up new recruits so they can be the next generation of veteran SEC Officers. TEACHING THE ROOKIES You are a instructor above all. While you carry a baton and a badge you should be more focused on making sure the rookies don't get themselves killed. They will look up to you, be sure to set a good example for them to follow. You are expected to be able to teach officers how to maintain all duties from patrol to perma brigging procedures to even some head of security responsibilities should your head request the guidance. While you might not end up taking over these roles over the course of the shift you should at least have knowledge of the roles. The Security Instructor is not required to report SOP Violations to IA Investigators and instead direct such reports to the Head of Security for corrective action. They still have the option to refer to Internal Affairs, should the officer show no remorse for his violation or no hope of improving. Old Green You are a officer among officers, you carry no rank over the Warden, Head of Security, or individual Officers unless stated otherwise by the Head of Security, Acting Head of Security, or Captain. Should the Warden or Head of Security go MIA/KIA, you are the third in line to be Acting Head of Security. As Stated before, the Head of Security or Captain, can give you command authority, but this is at their discretion. CODE GREEN PROCEDURES 1. Training new Security Officers takes priority. Security Instructors should take the initiative to identify and train new officers. 2. Security Instructors is permitted to carry out arrests under the same conditions as Security Officers, but they should not arrest if a Security Officer can make the arrest instead. 3. The Security Instructor is permitted to carry a taser, a flash, a stunbaton, and a can of pepperspray, while permitted to carry their _ _ _ _ they should only use their non-lethal equipment. 4. Security Instructors are expected to be able to brig in accordance to code green brigging procedures. 5. Security Instructors are not permitted to have weapons drawn during regular patrols. 6. Security Instructors should not conduct searches unless there is a clear and immediate threat or it is during brigging procedures. 7. Lethal Force is not authorized unless there is a clear and immediate threat to the station's integrity or the Officer's life. CODE BLUE PROCEDURES 1. Guidelines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 are carried over from code green. 2. Should security numbers decline, the Security Instructor may act as a reinforcement and assume all Security Officer Responsibilities. 3. Security Instructors are permitted to carry around any weapons or equipment available in the armory, at the Warden's discretion. 4. Security Instructors are permitted to carry weapons in hand during patrol should they have no equipment space. 5.Security instructors may demand entry into specific departments during regular patrols. 6. Security Instructors are expected to take new Security Officers during patrol. CODE RED PROCEDURES 1. Guidelines 2 3 4 5 and 6 Carry over from Code Blue 2. Security Instructors may arrest like normal Security Officers during code red. 3. Securities Instructors may forcefully relocate crewmembers to their respective departments if necessary. 4. Lethal force is permitted if the target is confirmed to be guilty of Capital Crimes and actively, and aggressively, resists arrest. CHAIN OF COMMAND The Security Instructor works under the Head of Security. During extreme circumstances the Head of Security or the Captain can promote the Security Instructor and give him command responsibilities. Should the Warden and Head of Security die or go missing, the Security Instructor is third in line for Acting Head of Security.
  16. This will derail the discussion towards pod pilot discussion but I will refute that “fact” add that I’ve observed almost every shift the sec pod pilots use the pod. They don’t use the pod the entire shift especially when shit hits the fan because it’s all boots on the ground from there on in. Instructors will also work the same way. When they have time to do so they can maintain their other duties, but when it REALLY hits the fan sec officers must remember they’re still a sec officer. Just like in the army: EVERY MAN IS A RIFLEMAN FIRST. Some people unfortunately fail to grasp that idea. Perhaps people who haven’t been exposed to a paramilitary organization... another thing to consider: Its up to the player on how to handle the job... No matter how unique it sounds. If you have a cool unique job idea I bet the community would love to hear it! Another thread would be a cool idea! Back on track: This will be inevitable based on how some players play. It will have to be handled case by case and hopefully SOPs can be established to prevent it. Eventually there will be some things where code and mechanics can’t prevent it, that’s where players come into play to do something about it! We’ve had that shift with a shitter nt rep, blueshield, or magistrate. We’ve had the NT rep who centcomm stamped everything and made it sound like it was a official centcomm order. We’ve had the blueshield become redshield, we’ve had the magistrate wear the white wig... From there on in however it’s up to the player’s initiative to speak up and act. We can make the SOPs, but it’s natural a person unfitting for then job will come by every now and then. As a karma job the instructor job will naturally have a higher standard, that being said job bans would probably be the best option if it is necessary. But @Regular Joeand @Christasmurf Have a good idea on some of the SOPs and loadouts. Perhaps by the end of the month we can flush that out enough to draft a wikipedia page for the Instructor jobslot.
  17. >Oh boy oh boy Rollback! Well a week has passed, and over time I've observed pretty much everything that everyone was explaining. Those who took up my offer to learn would quickly learn what I know and their survival rate would double. Those who didn't usually disappeared in maintenance. BUT WITH ALL THIS IN MIND and all the points presented one question remains: How do we go forward in implementing this idea? We have a general idea on the loadout, but what should be the official final decision on a instructor's loadout? How shall we write the SOPs for the instructor? AAAAH SO MUCH CRAP TO STILL ESTABLISH
  18. Whew boy here come the responses I'll try to get everyone I see its a frequent discussion and took the liberty to address that statement here: On top of that I understand that there's a potential for someone to see the job as a way to get more gear. That's where the karma points can come into play. Take the blueshield job for example, with Karma people are more careful to spend karma since its difficult for them to obtain karma through normal gameplay. They typically do some research and make the executive decision to spend karma on that job. With Karma we don't see that many NT Reps, Magistrates, or Blue shields going down that gung'ho "Ignoring duties and fucking around" compared to the Head of Security. While it isn't a fair system, the Karma system does do a effective job at making sure non qualified people dont get the job. BUT IT ISNT PERFECT I KNOW. YOU GET SOME SHITTER MAGISTRATES, NT REPS, AND BLUESHIELDS EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, BUT IT ISN'T AS FREQUENT AS A SHITTER HOS OR SEC OFFICER OR WARDEN. Field Training Officer sounds like the best title for the job in my personal opinion, but that's for whoever is coding / deciding whether or not this job is a good idea to decide! Nerd. Aaah wall of text! But yeah this pretty much also highlights some key elements where a Field Training Officer is crucial for SEC function. For example when a officer decides to arrest Kiachi for Vandalism. The entire incident can be prevented if the Field Training Officer is with that newsec to tell him "Don't arrest for Vandalism charges. We don't do that on this station" The goal of this job is primarily for people who are going into SEC who understand that their job is to be the training officer for newsec. In order to ensure the job holder is going into the job understanding that we have two options: Karma Job - Which would probably be preferred by many Karma holders due to the lack of Karma Jobs. However this would potentially restrict access to the majority. Time Lock - Kind of like how HOS is except with a EVEN LONGER time lock. I personally believe it'd take 20 hours alone to understand the Security Job enough to teach. That's 10 consistent shifts *If they survive the entire shift* Maybe you could convince a HOP for a job name change! The Criteria for local badass is you must carry a bottle of whiskey in your bag. The whiskey is your uniform
  19. With the instructor foundation in place it seems we are looking at two routes for the instructor regardless both have the same responsibilities: The first route is to make then a sergeant rank or a supervising rank, with this we can use more SEC Related routes. This might make the sergeant more relatable to the SEC department and more easy to look up to. The second route would be to give the instructor a VIP rank like blueshield or NT rep, which makes sense due to it being a karma job, and it’s a neat incentive. The question behind this one in the way of loadout is whether or not we wish to give them a vip sidearm like a enforcer or stun revolver. Either way while it looks good on paper, the biggest challenge it do adjust the player culture so we can have a pool of volunteers ready and willing to do the instructor job properly. It will all come down to how the players handle that responsibility. I guess identity and load out would be something for admins to get together to determine. Most Karma players would like to see something unique with the job, but how do we balance uniqueness and fairness?
  20. UPDATE 04/24/2019: The official Draft for the SEC Instructor is published along with a poll to determine which sprites should be commissioned! Both uniforms will eventually find their way into the role if everything goes according to plan, worst case scenario we will have to choose one or another. That's where the poll comes in! UPDATE 04/29/2019: The first iteration of the PR is up! Shout our to @AffectedArc07 as well as @Christasmurf and Mocha for their assistance! This is a vague post with not ALL the details inserted because this is all on the phone. Feel free to ask questions or assert opposing opinions! So we were having a discussion on discord in reference to the new wave of security officers joining the department without any guidance. Over the course of the discussion the idea of a Field Training Officer job came to light. . . In a time where the population influx is ALOT more than 8 officers can handle there is a need for a job where the job holder goes into the job knowing his responsibility is to train the newer officers coming into the department. Here are a couple footnotes brought up to help establish a foundation for the job. Criteria: 24-50 hours time as SEC ((or less depending on how this discussion goes) Job Name can either be Instructor, Drill sergeant, or FTO ((names suggested by discord)) Now many folks out there might be asking “Why is this needed? Why should I waste coding resources and time to make a job, a new premise ID, as well as new premade access? Why is Furasian on forums? Why isn’t the head of security doing this?” The reasoning behind this is that the job title helps new security officers designate who they can turn to in order to learn to ropes. The job holder also goes into the job understanding he/she also inherits the responsibility to guide and train sec officers on how to be robust and remain within the legal boundaries of space law at the same time. This also helps relieve a burden on the Head of Security’s shoulders so he/she can focus on the commanding responsibilities rather than balancing both teaching and commanding. Not to mention it’s less intimidating to turn towards someone of similar rank rather than your boss to tell them that you don’t know how to do your job in some aspects. Security officers are under great scrutiny and their walking targets for antagonists. To have a officer prepare them will help increase the retention rate and help establish a new wave of security mains. This also establishes a new layer of responsibility. NewSec won’t be able to just simply say “I didn’t know” everytime they step on their meat. I’ll try over the course of the week to test this idea out. In game I’ll try to get a custom job name of FTO and dedicate my time to training new officers to determine if this idea would have a significant impact. Please go into this idea with a open mind! I know everyone here has had a shitcurity moment where they wished someone who knew what they were doing had stepped in and educated the officer.
