    Compliment:

This is a compliment, which I know this board is mean't for complaints, but I feel it should be made public. Last night I was playing as the HoS during a vamp round. Having virtually no patrolling officers and 1 dead detective, I proceeded in to one of the last known locations of the one of the vamps. During my venture I subsequently got glared and robusted by a rather good Vamp. I got dragged away, stripped and was getting feasted on. During the course of the vamp's actions he stopped moving me around and after I was 3 quarters of the way through releasing my cuffs he dropped. Seconds later I got loose and proceeded to smash his ungodly skull in. Being in a tense situation where certain doom was upon me, I had all the adrenaline in the world flowing through me and I didn't even bother to examine him for SSD status (To which he had gone). Space contacted me and we chatted about what happened. He was very nice through out our conversation and seemingly understood my innocent blunder. I asked him to apologize to my now dead vamp friend for me and tell him he was a very robust vamp.

In the end I kinda stalled his burning and eventually he ressurected himself and fled. I felt much better after he rezzed himself, knowing that he had a second chance.

TL;DR - I made a blunder, space and I chatted and space was super cool about it.

  2. I am not a coder and I am certainly no wiz on Github, but it sounds like, from the conversation that's being had in this thread, that what is going on is there is a lack of centralization and sense of exploration. With a server this big and with so many requests that need to be answered and problems that need to be fixed, what you need is someone calling the shots, or a small group doing the same. Basically:

"This makes sense, let's try this"

"This is a flaming squirrel, what is it doing here, dear god put it out of it's misery."

Yes, but what is a breach to a system like LINDA? I get where Rob is going w/ this, and I think fire could use a little more...erratic behavior, making fire a much larger hazard, and making Atmos a bigger deal.

Having more dynamic fires would do a lot to help promote the crew working together, it would also give crew members something to do and let them feel more engaged with the station and their compatriots.

  4. As it stands right now a fire outbreak isn't that big of a deal. It will quote often put it self out and doesen't spread to cause any damage, unless some form of atmos breach is involved.

On all contained vessels fire is a very big deal and I would like to see it get buffed.

What I love about this poll is that 75% of the responders want either no fictional names or allow only obscure ones.

I'm glad this has been done, but we've been telling staff some basic things like this for months to years now, and I will be interested to see whether the wishes of the community will be taken into account.

I hope, this time, they are.

It will be interesting to see what they do, now that the vast majority of people seem to oppose fictional names.

  6. You guys have talked about restoring immersion back to the server via these new rules. Allowing people to run around with the names and looks of video game characters, anime characters, et cetra is doing little to restore that immersion. I love this game and I came to Paradise because it once offered the amount of immersion I wanted to see in this game. I think there is a rather strong arguement to be had that a sizeable portion of the population wants the development team to revisit these rules. You can add me to the list of people that want to see the rules regarding naming conventions looked at, again.

She ended up resigning her security position. Afterwards her and I went and explored the Russian space Station. I ended up dying due to beepks' commie twin, so she hauled my body back to the station, just in time to overhear, and watch the comedy of errors that occurred.

She ended up getting inured on the way back, and had to go into surgery, except it was a ghetto surgery where in which the guy doing it had no idea what he was doing. Her last words before the round ended were "why are you operating on me with a crowbar!"

I would say that Paradise should largely ignore the shit posting on /r/ss13 all together. The community there is pretty toxic at times, like in this case, but on the other hand it's a forum that brings together some of the best aspects of the largely fractured SS13 community.

Ignore the bad parts about it, and embrace the great parts about it.

  9.

These are the type of rounds I started playing SS13 for. I really hope that in the future the Admins will keep it loose and let the round play out organically, much like this one did.

Player driven scenario's like this will only help to encourage RP, relationships, and great gameplay.

Edit: My Girlfriend, who is new to SS13, was in complete and utter awe at the chaos that unfolded. I told her about the rules of the server, and generally how things run onboard Para, so when the Captain and Co decided to go rogue due to unknown factors, and it wasn't Adminbussing, she started laughing up a storm. We both watched the ERT get slammed, the Captain and AI talk shat to C&C, and everything else. Paradise gained a new player last night because of what occurred.

I don't have a problem with the furries, or most of the other complaints people have voiced so far. My one complaint though is the Atmos system. The fact it takes a generation for a small room to vent is ridiculous, and it breaks immersion, heavily.

I like Paradise I will continue playing here, but I really do hope the Atmos system get's changed.

This wonderful drone came by and paid me a visit for a round yesterday. He spruced up my core and we chatted the entire round, when I wasn't answering distress calls or door pages that is. I had no idea what he was saying for the most part but eventually we came up with a 1 beep = yes, 2 beep = no system.

  12. Hey all, I've been playing as Maverick Headley on the server now for 3+ months now. Thought I would say hi and let everyone know that I've been having a blast playing so far. I'm not super great at RP'ing but I'm having a ton of fun going through the motions of learning how to get good at it, even though it can be frustrating at times trying to think of new and creative ways to evolve my character.

  13.

Not entirely true, this is less a circumstance of Light RP and more that everyone treats antags as a "kill on sight" status and don't allow them ANY room to work.

And the way that the Vox Raiders are written in to the game there is plenty of middle ground to work with. They could easily fit in to a hybrid category, which might be described as something of a Antag/Guest of the station mix.

  14.

Our RP standards have changed over the past few months.

We are mostly light RP now.

In other words, something like this just isn't possible, no matter how good it is.

Regardless of the change I think that it might be a healthy change. The community is still very RP heavy, at least at night time anyways, and I think the community would enjoy it. This is why I'm making the suggestion.

  15.

I'd like to suggest that some of the rules be changed to how Vox Raider rounds are handled, specifically in-regards to how they are/can be treated by the crew.

Vox Raider rounds offer up a great opportunity for solid RP between the crew and the antags. I suggest that instead of Vox Raiders being considered KOS targets, that the rules be changed to offer them some leniency, so until they outright prove to be a criminal threat that they be treated as guests of the station. Today for example there was a Vox Raider round where in which I was one of the raiders and my crew and I went to the mining asteroid to trade. Without boo even being said by the miners they quite literally drilled holes in our heads, even though we continually stated we were there for trade.

I joined this server because of the way RP'ing is valued by the admins and large portion of the community. Giving the Vox Raiders some opportunity to RP without being considered out-right Antags would be fun for all, especially since the Vox are considered one of my favorite species to interact with.

My only problem with the entire conversation was the literally the last two words of his last reply, that's all. I felt he got the message across that he needed to get across, I just didn't like how it ended is all. I know I fucked up and I admitted it.

And yes, I do feel more relaxed and I did misunderstand what he wanted to say. I do understand also the need to enforce the rules in this environment in such ways as this. Thank you for answering my query, mate.

  17.

The point of this forum is to have well thought out and clear complaints. Quite obviously all complaints must be polite. Posts that display too much anger or unreasonable thought will be removed. We do this to get feedback on what we do.

Complaint: During the process of transferring Flip Kirkston to the brig from detention for damaging a Sec borg my character was assaulted by Bulma, who was in security for w/e reason as a civ. She disarmed me of my baton as I attempted to use it to defend my self. The baton was out of charges, and while it was in her hands I attempted to use my taser on her, but to no effect as it was seemingly out of charges as well. I defended myself to the best of my abilities and initially was only going to hit her a couple of times to ensure my safety, unfortunately I did excessively hurt her and unknowingly put her in to crit. I was contacted by FreeStylaLT and asked the obvious question as to why. I explained my self and after a lengthy conversation to which I'm sure he has the logs to he quoted the following rule.

"PM from-ModFreeStylaLT: An excerpt from the rules: When provoked into extreme anger a punch or two may be realistic but Nanotrasen doesn't hire people who bludgeon someone to death with a crowbar when angry or bored. I understand that you were more or less provoked into some form of action, but beating Bulma into crit was not an appropriate course of action, since it is excessive violence that was not necessary in any way given the fact you were being threatened by and dealing with non-violent, disarming/stun means."

    I replied with:

PM to-FreeStylaLT: Fair enough, duly noted.

And then I got this from him, which is why I'm here making this post.

PM from-ModFreeStylaLT: Consider this a warning, next time this happens you will be facing a jobban or worse.

Look I get it, I did something wrong, I broke the rules, but I paid for it. IC I received the demotion without any hassle and handed my sec gear back in. I also listened to the mod and accepted a warning. But then I got the "OR worse" treatment. I'm sorry but that's quite unprofessional. I'm a relatively new player to the game in general and this type of warning from a mod really grinds my gears and irritates me. Couldn't he have left it at "Hey here's the rules, don't do it again. Was it really necessary to bump it up to the "OR worse!" stage?
