  2. +1; bio-implant chips, compensator chips, or bio-chips (and I don't mean the one in bio-labs) have kinda already been an established term for small chip-like implant that provide various functionality. Bio-chip sounds like a good choice to me.

  4. Hello! I am suggesting a change or overhaul to the current telepathy system that Greys use. This is entirely up for coders and staff to decide as to how it should be implemented, as I am by no means a coder, so I don't know what would or wouldn't work. As it is, ignoring the trade of water for acid and lowlight vision for eye sensitivity, the Grey's biggest trait is trading 25% extra brute damage in exchange for telepathy, which is a hefty trade. And I am fine with that, as the lore of Greys being a fragile race of psionic intellects is very interesting. The problem is that the telepathy system they have is very poor, obtuse, and somewhat lazy. To my knowledge, the Grey telepathy is simply the telepathy power from genetics, which offers a fairly poor system to begin with. This power works through two commands: Project Mind and Scan Mind. Project Mind brings up a menu of possible targets within 14 tiles of your character, allowing you to send them a single message. Fairly simple. A bit annoying to use, given the menus you have to pass through, but what's difficult about it is the lack of a pop-up when someone receives a message. I've used this power many times only to receive no acknowledgement because the person in question didn't realize they were being spoken to. The biggest problem with this system though, in my opinion, lies in Scan Mind. This ability is what allows the receiving party to respond. How this works though is by using the command and selecting a person, which offers them a command in their chat box to reply once. This command itself expires very quickly as well. And so if one wished to have a conversation through telepathy, they would have to spam this ability, both to allow someone to actually respond without being limited to only one entry and then getting stuck, and because the offers themselves might expire before they can be used. Not to mention that they might even expire before someone realizes a telepathic offer was given. And of course, this entire system does not allow any form of group communication. It only works for one on one conversations, and incredibly poorly at that. Greys do have their own language which functions as a radio channel for their species only, but that is a separate system. The actual telepathy system, which allows for one on one conversation through psionics, is incredibly obtuse and needs a rework. I'm unsure what fancy things could be done, such as creating chat rooms or even giving greys some other nifty tricks, but at least, I would like the following done to make the ability bearable: Give the people who are communicated to with telepathy a ping or a more obvious pop-up that they've been spoken to. And for scan mind, don't give a duration or use counter on replies. Instead, maybe just have it cancel once the person who's offered the scan mind leaves the 14 tile distance. Although there's many other neat things that could be done, I feel like those two things are the simplest solution. And like I said at the beginning, feel free to offer any advice or suggestions on how this suggestion might be changed or altered! Thank you for reading all the way through, if you did.

  6. The last time I got shot with that thing I just casually died on the spot because it's hard to live when all your vital organs are now on the floor. And I was wearing armour. Are we actually certain that this thing is "just 10 more damage than a .357"? EDIT: I actually tested it. More plausible explanation of my anecdote is that it was a regular sniper rifle on stealth nuke ops. Memory is fuzzy, it happened like years ago. Compact sniper rifle indeed does seem to do jack shit.

In real life subdermal implants are implanted with the use of a dermal punch, which is a thingy that removes a disk of skin, a trocar, which is sort of a hollow needle or blade that you can insert through, like for laparoscopic surgery, or a syringe... In SS13 it seems to be the latter. Bio-chip injector perhaps?

While surface level characters work for gameplay purposes, they're not the best for RP and don't give you the full Paradise Station SS13 experience. Worry not.   12. As the title implies, I am resigning from Maintainer, as I need to focus more on IRL things, hosting, and my own mental health. I wont go into too many details, but this is the way forward for me to preserve what remains of my sanity. FAQ Are you staying as Host? Yes. I dont plan to resign from Host any time soon. Believe it or not, its a lot calmer than Maintainer for a fair few reasons. Do you have a successor? No. Nobody at the moment has the required skills or etiquette to be a Maintainer. Can we ping you yet? No.

  15. Inspired by a post @Woje made in the current Suggestion thread regarding cutting hair. Currently, you can only perform CPR if both you and the target have nothing on your face, and you are able to deliver rescue breaths. However, compressions are arguably the most important part of CPR - to the point that the AHA changed their algorithm from "A-B-C" (Airway - Breathing - Circulation) to "C-A-B" (Circulation - Airway - Breathing) in 2010, prioritizing high-quality chest compressions over opening the airway or delivering breaths. In fact, there was a study that was released one year prior to the AHA changes that showed that prehospital cardiac arrest patients had a higher survival rate when just given an oxygen mask as opposed to being mechanically ventilated. I don't want to get too off-track on how things work in real life, because SS13 is a game and ultimately isn't a 1:1 facsimile of real life. However, I would like to see CPR be able to performed when you can only give chest compressions - perhaps at 75% effectiveness? If both parties can breath and have no masks, then let it function as it currently does. This would allow CPR see a lot more use, and would also allow better management of patients when you have 2+ medical staff attending them. No more worrying about administering a medication that the other doc is already on top of, or treating the same damage area - now one person can focus on CPR to help stabilize while the lead medic runs things.

  18. A new guy had his mind fucking blown that sentient mice were a thing. We RPed together the rest of the round and I tried to give him little pieces of advice and lore, and we stole some cheese from the kitchen. It was really heart-warming; I play for rounds like that.
