  6. The lawset and context is very important. If I'm on corporate and one or more people are shooting up the joint and running around, I'll definitely seek out non lethal options first... but if that doesn't work and they're still going nuts, I'm going to start going on the offensive. If it's just someone running around doing something stupid, I'll generally call them out and leave it at that until they escalate further--there's probably something more important to deal with. Some say that crewsimov alleviates the problem of 'validhunting' as an AI, yet they forget that validhunting doesn't just pertain to killing an antagonist--it means to stop an antagonist. Crewsimov more or less forces an AI to act on this element more than corporate or many other lawsets. NT default is often a little better about this. Crewsimov also has the issue of boiling down to "AI law 2 open X" in regards to crew interaction with the AI, which feels more than a little boring and repetitive.

  7. Basically what the lid says. Re-enable the heirophant ruin in the config. Heirophant is a fun fight and it is a shame it was disabled. It being disabled was the right option at the time however. The staff was just too strong. However, now the staff only works on lavaland, so its basically only useful for strip mining. More mining loot that is good for actually mining is a good thing. Imo there is no reason for heirophant to be disabled anymore because its unga bunga kill all nukies staff has been nerfed to a state in which it has no offensive abilities on station.

  8. As said above, it's a very fun fight and I'd love to see it come back. However, even if the staff doesn't work on station anymore, the crusher trophy is still incredibly overpowered, and allows for cheese of nearly every single fauna on lavaland - which means gamer loot, which might impact the station regardless. I think reducing the wall's duration to be more of a fleeting boon (just like the eye of the miner) rather than being able to completely shape the area would be quite necessary to limit that if it was to be re-added. I opened a PR for it

  9. Personally I strongly dislike validhunting silicons. Paradise unfortunately gives silicons quite a bit of leeway in the interpretation of laws compared to other servers... Though I think non-security modules are still meant to do the job they signed up for. Although one thing to consider here is, what lawset were the borgs on? I definitely want to know what the actual staff answer to this is.

  11. I'm bored, so I guess I'll tell the story of how I got the Nanotrasen Medal of Adequacy as CE. One night a while back, I start up a regular shift with my favorite character, Korval. Suddenly get an announcement saying engineering has an additional goal. Then another. And another. And another. When people inevitably complain, Cent Comm gives us a big fuck you and throws in an additional goal to go with it. So now engineering has to do a BSH, a DNA vault, shield satellites, and two BSAs. Naturally, I wasn't stoked about this because all of that was now my job to oversee. I guess Cent Comm felt some pity, because they warped in racks of engineering supplies and, more importantly, combat RCDs. I head over to my announcement console, draft up a plan and set everything into motion. Solars, atmos, and the engine were to go up while some engineers work with cargo, some help other departments with DNA related stuff, and another team works on the BSA platforms. Fast forward a little bit and I have about 12 people in the engineering department in total now. The satellites are done. I figured we'd get that one. Easiest goal by far. Fast forward some more and I hear that the DNA vault is also done. That kinda took me off guard because you have to have fourish departments all pulling their weight at the same time (engineering, botany, xenobio, cargo). At this point I probably have 16 engineers and an admeme messages me and tells me that I can appoint a deputy to help manage. I ask to make it a ghost role, but no sensible entity, living or dead, would willingly submit themselves to that, so I kept going solo. Fast forward again and the BSH is collecting points and the BSA platforms were done and the actual machines were in place. Somewhere between now and the DNA vault going up we had the painful realization that cargo had a severe case of male pattern baldness. To combat this, I simply had a team of engineers do that for them. Fast forward more and one BSA is up, but the other won't deploy (I assume because of the fact that there was already one directly below it. Admemes help with that. We eventually get it up, but to fire it would mean to split the station clean in two, so the VIP sent to oversee let that one slide. Now, everything is done except the BSH. I forget if we actually completed it. I think we did, but I'm not sure. In any case, I got a medal and everyone in engineering probably got a $15 gift card to NT's version of Amazon. I'm not certain how accurate all of this is because it was honestly a blur, but I will never forget that it happened. PS: If any of the engineers that took part in this night are reading this, thanks a ton. You did an awesome job.

  13. I agree with necaladun, but I also understand - it's really bad sportsmanship to be validhunting as non-security silicons, and really really bad sportsmanship to be playing supercop as the AI. It's not against the rules, but it should and does get you targeted and killed by the antag very frequently, even if they have low-level objectives. If I were staff, I would absolutely greenlight any ahelp for permission to kill or destroy the AI as an antag if it's being a total scrunt to them. If the opportunity presents itself, like if a sling bumbles by an engieborg repairing wires and subsequently gets chased and spotlamped to death, then whatever, gg. I would like to see the administration take a hard tack against AI validhunting, but only in one specific way - as necaladun stated, you are to follow your laws, and if that means someone needs the AI/engiborg's help to fix a breach to a critical station area, or to put out a major fire, or something more important than bolting in a tider or lone cultist and they miss/ignore the order because they're too busy playing supercop, that should be grounds for a note/chat and potentially a silicon ban if it gets crew killed. TL;DR, don't be a dick as a silicon if you value your reputation as a player/member of the crew, and (hopefully) beware getting bonked if you're so busy focusing down one misbehaving crewman or antag that the station's suffering for it. Secborgs are obviously fair game, and I frequently see antags prepped for them, so it is what it is, and when I play a secborg I don't salt a grain if I get owned while trying to nab a baddie.

  14. It was really good, however adding it as a boon kind of defeats the purpose. After reading Peak's PR it seems I just misunderstood his intent, as the wall isn't really going anywhere - it's just a fix for the brainless "cheese" you can still do it as you would normally it's just slightly more difficult.

  15. Yeah, if someone picks medical borg and then patrols maint 'just in case' they run into a changling they get to saw i'd kinda call that validhunting. But laws are laws.

  16. Borgs are to follow their lawsets/AI master, and act as if they were put on the station by NT to help the station. That often includes helping against terrorist threats, as long as that is within their lawset. Their chassis is their specialty in tools, but does not affect SoP/server rules/etc - just like when a civilian picks up a toolbelt, nothing changes. Their 'role' is borg, regardless of the chassis. A generalist module is able to do a variety of things. A service borg still has to follow their laws, which means preventing crew harm and following orders on crewsimov - including sacrificing themselves if need be to prevent crew harm. If they're on robocop or the like, then even medical borgs should be chasing down a changeling and circular-sawing them if it is in line with their laws.

  17. Not a department. Only really okay if they're security. All else basically see the server rules on validhunting. That is my answer to this. Other admins may have their own ideas on it.

  18. The mirror shield is an item that can do pretty much everything, offense and defense included, with nothing that does what it can. What if there was an item more specialized, but still useful? Introducing cursed shields! When they're first made, cursed shields would be nothing more than a fancy cult version of a riot shield, with nothing more than decent block chance. However, you can use spells on them to give them different uses! Simply slap your favorite spell on it and turn it into a useful tool. Each spell would have different effects based on the nature of the spell, such as stun spells applying a short stun to those who hit the shield, teleport randomly teleporting people and projectiles a short distance, blood orb shooting blood orbs, blood spear enabling the shield to do heavy brute damage on hit, and more! Most spells would be used up in one hit, forcing you to reapply them if you want to continue using their benefits. This would make for more interesting gameplay and strategies, as you would be met with the choice of either using your limited spells normally, or putting it on your shield. It would also give otherwise useless spells such as hallucinations a practical use, and change up the spell loadouts people go for every cult round. Disclaimer: this is just an idea, and I don't know how to code shit

  24. I don't really think this contributes to horror as much as it does "Hey robotics print out ten cells for me k thx" And I swear if I have to answer several dozen requests like that I'm going to cry. Realism doesn't gameplay make good all of the time. I think there's a fine difference between, say, an idea to have a person remove clothing prior to surgery... and making people just want to stock up on ten dozen cells each shift. I feel this would be more tedious than beneficial.

  26. I'll start off strong with my biggest SS13 piece to date: a commission from a friend of mine as a gift for @SlimeBird! Finished about mid-December, 2020. (I already feel like I've improved a ton since this.) Here's some art I've done of one of my characters, Rivera Kirkland, as a geneticist: Drawn in April 2021. And here's some art I ended up drawing after my first round of chef in ages, playing as Sybil Swords, featuring @angelictactics's Idunn. Drawn in May 2021.

  28. Clickbait title woo. So let's talk about shaming culture. Shame is an important social tool to indicate a societal attitude towards behaviour. Go look up sociology shit on wiki. As crew, comments on your coworkers shape their actions. As admins, it can be our job to shame people for their behaviour. This can be done appropriately some times - but someone shouldn't feel too ashamed over a simple mistake, especially newbies. This needs to be done carefully and correctly to ensure that it stops the behaviour, and teaches people the correct action. You should avoid direct insults to the persons intelligence. This can cross IC/OOC boundaries, where your IC insults are being reflected at the person behind the screen. Several people have talked to me recently about how they've been shamed by admins OOCly and ICly in a variety of circumstances. Some of these times have been appropriate to shame someone for their behaviour. The degree to which this has been done and ways has not always been to my liking - I'd like to take this opportunity to remind admins that even a minor comment from someone with the power of a banhammer, comes across very strongly. Calling them an idiot in front of the entire station can be mortifying, and totally turn a new player off the game. This is something that should be remembered when you play the game too. Everyone has off days, and abusing the CE for messing up the singularity isn't going to stop anyone getting sucked into it or make the shuttle arrive faster. When you criticise someone's actions, try to do it in a way that teaches them what the correct thing to do is, and doesn't humiliate the person behind the screen too much. Over this weekend especially I'll be collecting various feedback etc on this, so feel free to message me. If you're reading old forum posts a year from now, also feel free to message me. It's literally my job to talk to players and the community about things like this.
