  3. It's cool that you have your own interpretation of valid hunting, but is this a suggestion of what you want it to be or how you mainly assume it is right now? Because right now, there is no evidence that I have found, where you have to account for this affair with a "staging area". If your intention is to save someone, I don't think you're disallowed from even shoving if the antagonist runs away WITH the victim, from the initial attack, that's written in... the Rules/Advanced Rules of self-defense. If this is a suggestion, my thoughts are that this restricts players even further than necessary. Remember, I initially had a gripe with having to use nonlethal force and being unable to escalate when escalated upon, this suggestion grants the former and also forces players to leave their coworkers behind if the attacker runs away with the victim out of the bar where they attacked.
  4. It's a bit of a scale of how annoying it is. I'd say disarming can definitely still be validhunting, but it depends on how far it goes. Few antags are going to care if someone that was already nearby disarms them a few times during an attack. It's expected in-fact. But whats not expected is an angry mob of assistants chasing them down the hallways and maintenance. I think of this being the core: -The general area around where the crime takes place is the staging area, and you are non-security. -Any non-security already at the staging area at the time of the crime can be non-lethally involved, as long as it stays in the staging area. -Once one of the three parties (the antag, the victim, or you) leaves the staging area, you lose the right to get involved further. Secondary notes: First priority is removing the victim (or yourself if it's you) from the area, and not staying longer than you should. Taking note of the above, this should not take very long as if the antag is in control, they should be able to leave the area quite quickly. If they haven't, then the victim is likely just as easy for you to run away with.

  6. It's good that you said that because after all, the first sentence of Space Law's Self Defense note is: I also made a hyperlink error, but in my first Admin Complaint (correctly hyperlinked), staff did argue against me following into the bridge after the abductor as well. However, in the same complaint, I was informed I could've tried disarming the abductor. I did ask about disarming in another department and if lethal measures are ever allowed to defend coworkers in my discussions with a head of staff. To my understanding, it seems like a blanket measure and players are generally restricted to disarming in most circumstances, regardless of whether they are in a public area or not. My understanding could be flawed and staff clarification could help but that's my perception as it stands. Perhaps I'll ask about it later IDK.
  7. I mean I imagine it kinda revolved around "Public areas." In public areas, antagonists are the one being scrutinized. Going loud in a populated, public area for extended periods of time trends towards murderboning or baiting towards it, and nearby people are often going to be involved. In non-public areas however (especially ones you're not supposed to have access to), the civilian is under scrutiny. You have very little reason to be there, and less to try to jump in front of a stranger's gun.
  8. I understand that's the concern but I do not believe the line of logic is sound. If you intend to save someone, if you meet an antagonist's level of force after they start coming after you, your intention can still be to defend yourself and your coworker. The attacker can still run away because your intention isn't to valid hunt. Objecting against substantially fighting back against an antagonist killing your coworkers, killing YOU, out of fear it can be seen as valid hunting when the antagonist is the one who initiates the conflict, I cannot support that. This can't be simplified as an attacker giving a warning shot and the player using it as an underhanded excuse to valid hunt, this is a broader approach that affects how antagonists could murder whoever they want without substantial resistance, because of an unwarranted fear.
  9. "I don't believe it's sound judgement to object against players responding lethally to an antagonist killing them, becuase the defender was initally helping someone else." ^ Main issue here is that applied to everyone, people would just take this as an excuse to validhunt, just with the added step of "spam-shove them until they retaliate first". It'd be really easy to attempt to press an antag into attacking you and then just stab them to death when they give you a warning shot.
  10. I tried to edit in a hyperlink directing towards Space Law's Modifiers and Special Situations section, but the forums keep freezing. I'm just gonna post to be thorough. Read the above post before going to conclusions. Space Law's Modifiers and Special Situations

  12. Hi, I felt I should discuss this topic since I think more people should know about and engage with it. I'd also like to preface that I will reference some of my past complaints for context, but the discussion shouldn't be about me complaining. The framework of this topic was the result of extensive "research", but I shouldn't be taken as an authority on valid hunting or whatnot. "My Understanding" is just that and should be taken with a grain of salt, the only definitive authority should be any appropriate staff responses, if there are any, I suppose. 16. In game, when you hover over the ability it states: "You summon a trap on the ground. When crossed it will bind the target, extinguish any light they have, and ensnare them." My suggestion is to change it to inform you that you have to *click* a tile to place it, like other abilities do. My suggestion stems from my experience today playing as vamp, which seems to be pretty rare for the amount I play this game.. Not playing umbrae often, I clicked it, assuming it "summoned" a trap on the ground beneath me. Not knowing I had to click a tile to place it, it then didn't remove the activation and the game was waiting for me to click a tile. As is always the case when something game breaking like this happens, a lowly seccie waltz around the corner, spotting me fading into the shadows. I Glare them, twice, leaving them stunned - but now, because the "shadow snare" is still active, I am unable to pull out my cable restraints to cuff them and drag them off. I'm just getting spammed in the chat box with "No suitable target found x14". I didn't realise at the time that this was because I had a few minutes earlier, attempted to place a trap on the floor. Leaving me confused as to why I couldn't pull out the restraints. before I have time to figure it out, 3 more sec officers appear. I manage to dip into the shadows. I refresh my graphics in attempt to fix the cable restrain issue (big mistake), and was left with a big white box covering my screen. (another epic game feature). Rendering me useless, frustrated and enraged. I get caught and my run as antag is as good as over. Annoyingly, this was my best run as vamp to date and it got snuffed by a lacking (in my opinion) description box.. Thanks
  17. "Here's an idea for you, dustlung. Just don't " -Hika Name: Hikayayatayakahaya (Hika for short) Age: 30 Gender: Male Race: Vox (91% Stack) Blood Type: O+ (Vox Blood) General occupational role(s): Security Warden Detective Head of Security Captain Biography: Hika was created like all other Vox, in a little growth vat made with the parts of his fallen comrades. Rather interestingly, or by complete coincedence, his stack achieved 1% above the average stack. His long name was mainly given to him out of jealously by the other Vox who created him, as a way to bruise his ego and make it hard for those of not Vox tongue to speak it. Hika's first moments outside of his vat involved mostly spartan-like training, though, in his words "If that training was turned into a cartoonish kids show" due to the spartan-like training being mainly done through playtime. Eventually, Hika would get a job as a bar bouncer in a minor robotics colony. There, he would meet his least favorite species: The Plasmamen, who were pissed that a standard Vox just stole their jobs from them. They then calmly tried to sabotage his nitrogen tank, but would later be caught by Hika during the attempt and then he promptly broke their fingers. Nanotrasen, interested in Hika's almost sixth sense ability, offered a security position which Hika very quickly accepted without reading the fine print. His almost unhealthy dedication to the security team, and a brief period of being a warden and a detective, would allow Hika to accept a job position as the Head of Security. Or, a head of security. Hika's job as a Head of Security wasn't as eventful as his previous position, or at least not as eventful as a regular security guard. However, one interesting situation was when Hika was brainwashed by the Blood Cult of the Reaper, and he suspiciously requested to be a psychologist. He was deconverted, and very promptly confused about what the hell he was doing in phsyciatrist garb. Eventually, his leadership and dedication to his job would land him in a position as captain of the NSS Cyberiad, where he would end up getting drunk, passing out to SSD, then wake up in a padded room with zero idea how he got there. After Hika got his head straight, he became a full time Captain to whatever vessel he was assigned to. Employment Records Despite his overwhelming dedication, Hika is also overwhelmingly incompetent in some fields, such as keeping his head straight. But, even with his poor self-control, his leadership stays strong. Security Records Battery Medical Records None Security Interview Rather tall for a Vox, sitting at 5'3 His two tongues can remain together to act as a singular tongue, allowing Hika to speak without the need of shorthanding his sentences Has a distinct lack of quills Other Notes: CC ONLY!
  18. A loadout for wizards that emphasizes using technology, learning to directly manipulate it and using it to facilitate other magicks. Geared largely towards more stealthy gameplay. Direct spells would be limited and all relate to technology. Disable Technology, Lesser Summon Guns, maybe even a ranged emag spell. The loadout would also come with a PDA, accompanied by a program cartridge (or multiple!) allowing for the invocation of other magical effects. Using one of these programs would temporarily spawn a rune around the wizard, so they would have to use it in secret if they want to be careful. Curse people in a mechanic similar to how viruses such as the PDA bomb work currently, with victims being blinded, made deaf, or other debilitating effects. Open dimensional rifts in certain locations from a specified list as the current scroll of teleportation works, spawning in hellhounds, skeletons, and other Bluespace creatures. Being able to interact with station machinery with other abilities, such as teleporting through computers or using the cameras to view the station like the AI.
